Snowy Day in Jackson

The warm weather continued with 37 degrees in the morning and rain in town and at the base of the ski mountain.  We decided to give skiing a try.  We rode the gondola which rises 2,800 feet.  Starting from 6,300 feet in rain the precipitation turned to snow at about 7,500 feet.  However above 8,000 feet we were in a cloud with very challenging visibility.  The snow was pretty good and piling up quickly.  We got a number of good runs in the challenging visibility but then the winds really got strong. We decided to have a short day due to the conditions. See video below.

For the second part of the day we explored the town of Jackson.  We had a great lunch at a restaurant named Gather.  Interestingly enough the breakfast server from our hotel a lady with the nickname "Billy" works at Gather also.  Billy is a very interesting person.  She is a Wyoming native and is currently working on her doctorate involving sustainability and environmental practices in the energy field.  She grew up in a ranching and mining family and has an excellent perspective on these industries and how they can effectively operate in the  current day.

After that we toured the downtown.  A trip to Jackson is not complete without a stop at the Million Dollar Cowboy bar where bar stools are actually horse saddles.  Tonight we will dine a Kitchen.
We would highly recommend the Rusty Parrot Lodge in Jackson.  It is a 3 story lodge just a few blocks from the main part of town.  The rooms are nicely laid out and the bed extremely  comfortable.  The staff really goes out of their way to meet any need.  Our room had a wood burning fire place which was great to use.
